Lewis Fletcher SPC, PTR

Senior Performance Coach

I began my coaching career at Brightwells Tennis Club, based in Farnham. I gained my PTR at the age of 17 as well as my Tennis Assistants qualification. After completing college I opted to play full time tennis with the PTR academy in London at 17. After two years I found that it was time to move on and I went down the coaching route yet again. I picked up my coaching at Brightwells for another year, with Catherine joining me 6 months later. During this time I went on to achieve my DCA. Shortly after this we moved to Ramsbury for a new coaching opportunity. We have been at Ramsbury Tennis Club since 2006. I thoroughly enjoy my coaching and work with all kids as well as adults of various standards and levels.  In February 2010 I went on to gain my SPC Award. With our work we have close links with the County and I have managed the U18 boy’s, U18 girls, U14 boys at their respective County Cup events as well as the U12’s.

As a player, I didn’t start tennis until I was 14. As a junior, whilst part of the PTR Academy I played lots of tournaments around the country including British Tours and Open Tournaments. I was selected to become a part of the National Great Britain Deaf Tennis Squad at the age 16. My first tournament abroad was in Austria 2003 at the Dresse + Maere Cup (Deaf tennis version of the Davis Cup) and we were the finalists - a great result for my first international event. At the National events, I have been a finalist and a semi-finalist 5 times in the Singles over a period of 6 years; I also have 2 Men’s and 3 Mixed Doubles titles, 2 of them with Catherine. Recently, we have travelled to Munich and Bucharest for tournaments.

My career highlights are knocking out the no 2 seed in my first Deaflympics in Taipei, Taiwan (2009), plus reaching bronze play off in the mens doubles, representing my country for numerous years, most recently at the Dresse & Maere Cup in Tennessee 2014 and the 2013 Deaflympics in Bulgaria - we came 4th in the mixed after winning the National Championships together this same year. A special highlight in my career has to be winning the National Championships in singles for the first time in 2012 (and doubles). Catherine and I won the Bronze at the Europeans in this same year.
